Passion and Anxiety

a tale about anxiety and passions

Phinnaeus and Manny, though they were twins, were as different as night and day. However, the brothers' interests shared some similarities. For instance, both brothers loved anything to do with the sea. Phinnaeus had always been partial to cooking seafood while Manny had always been enthusiastic about sea-life. Their father, who worked out on the docks, would take the twins out on the sea almost every weekend. While Manny loved learning where the best catch was, Phinnaeus would be hunched over the boat’s railing sick to his stomach. Their mother, on the other hand, was the chef at a restaurant that specialized in seafood. Sometimes, she would even teach the boys how to cook in the morning when she was home. Although Manny loved sea creatures, he was not at all interested in cooking as he did not care to hurt animals. Phinnaeus however, would beam whenever his mother showed him new recipes and cooking tricks to strengthen the flavor of the dish.

As the boys got older, their interests turned into their passions. Manny had been given the opportunity to work alongside his father to lead in fishing expeditions, while Phinnaeus was starting as a junior chef at his mother’s restaurant. However, even with these great opportunities, both boys were insecure of their skills and if they would be good enough at their jobs. Manny and Phinnaeus' parents were incredibly skilled at their jobs and the two brothers did not want to let them down. Eventually, the boy’s anxieties were noticed by both their mom and dad and it was decided to have a family meeting. Manny and Phinnaeus’ parents reassured them that they would not have gotten the chance to show off their talents if their parents did not think they deserved it. They continued, stating that they needed to have more confidence in themselves as everything they’d done their whole lives had prepared them for their passions. With this reassurance, Manny and Phinnaeus were more at ease with themselves. Their parents’ advice was inspiring to the boys, as well as a challenge for them to become better than ever at their skills. The brothers were now finally making their way into their career paths as a fisherman and a cook.
